Defiant Obama Proposes Deferred Action for DREAMers; Endorses Lax Border Policy

Published on June 15th, 2012

Encouraged by the token resistance put up by the GOP to last year’s “prosecutorial discretion" program and frustrated by Congress’ inaction on the DREAM Act, the Obama administration today defiantly announced that it would remove from deportation proceedings as many as 800,000 aliens between the age of 16-31. At the same time, they will receive work permits that would allow them to immediately compete with 20 million unemployed/underemployed Americans.

According to a memo issued by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, if young adults meet certain “key criteria,” they will “be eligible to receive deferred action for a period of up to two years.” Napolitano deceitfully insists that this is not an amnesty but rather a “justified” revision of existing immigration laws.

The so-called key criteria are predictable and include those who came to the United States at an early age, are students or enrolled in the military and have no criminal record—the classic definition of a DREAMer. Read the entire DHS press release here.

Napolitano’s is not the only immigration outrage this week. Yesterday, the Washington Times reported that U.S. Border and Customs Protection (the agency responsible for protecting the border) wrote a “secret” memo that would allow agents to catch and release low-priority aliens as they cross instead of detaining them for processing and possible prosecution. The memo specifically warned against making the document public for fear that it would be subject to Freedom of Information requests.

House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith promptly equated the new BCP policy with “rolling out the red carpet” for illegal immigrants and, at the same time, undermining the agency’s sworn duty to apprehend aliens.

Adding to the outrage, George E. McCubbin III, president of the National Border Patrol Council, the union that represents rank-and-file agents, revealed that “immigrants’ rights groups” had drafted the memo.  So-called immigrants’ rights groups are, in fact, open borders advocates like La Raza, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund and LULAC.

McCubbin, noting that his agents had not been contacted, called the process “unfrickin’ believable.” [Secret Report: Catch and Release Programs Proposed for Aliens, by Steven Dinan, Washington Times, June 14, 2012]

Summarizing: ignoring Congress which has soundly rejected the DREAM Act multiple times and with complete disregard for Americans' safety at the border or their economic well being, the Obama administration proposes to unlawfully grant amnesty to 800,000 illegal aliens and has authorized a relaxed border policy in a “secret” memo.

Obama’s unforgivable actions betray Americans who he took an oath to protect but about whom he obviously cares little.
