Senate Introduces Worker Protection Bill

Sold Out Exposes Extent of Corporate Greed, Visa Abuse

Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) recently introduced the long overdue “H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act of 2015” to help reduce rampant visa fraud that is commonly found in most of the dozens of U.S. nonimmigrant visas. If the legislation becomes law, S. 2266 would guarantee that employers offer high-skilled U.S. jobs to qualified Americans before hiring foreign nationals.

Specifically, according to Senate Judiciary Chair Grassley’s website, S. 2266 would prohibit U.S. companies from employing H-1B visa holders if they have more than 50 people and more than 50 percent of their existing employees are already H-1B and L-1 visa holders. The legislation promises to crack down on outsourcing companies that bring overseas H-1B and L-1 workers to the U.S., but then sends those same workers to their native countries to perform jobs displaced Americans would eagerly do.

Grassley and Durbin were motivated largely by the disgraceful, well-publicized Disney and Toys“R”Us ugliness wherein longstanding, qualified American employees were unjustly fired, and forced to train their foreign-born replacements in order to collect their severances. For many more examples of the insidious, three-decade long practice of firing Americans under the ruse of an acute shortage of skilled citizens, and replacing them with less skilled but cheaper foreign nationals, read Sold Out: How High-Tech Billionaires & Bipartisan Beltway Crapweasels Are Screwing America's Best & Brightest Workers by Michelle Malkin and John Miano.

One review:

“In Sold Out, Michelle Malkin and John Miano reveal the worst perpetrators screwing America’s high-skilled workers, how and why they’re doing it – and what we must do to stop them. In this book, they will name names and expose the lies of those who pretend to champion the middle class, while aiding and abetting massive layoffs of highly skilled American workers in favor of cheap foreign labor. Malkin and Miano will explode some of the most commonly told myths spread in the media…”

From another:

“The book shows, in detail, the people and the schemes, fraud, misrepresentation, pay scales, charging fees, etc. involved. They are again destroying the careers of Americans. They are also exploiting the foreign workers. This should all be shut down.”

And from a third:

“Politicians and the corporate cheap labor lobby have thrown the American worker under the bus. Sold Out explains how it started and why it continues at an increasing rate. The book will make you want to sell your stock and cut-off any business you may have with companies like Infosys, Southern California Edison, Google, Facebook, Intel, Microsoft, Walt Disney, Pfizer, and Qualcomm. It also will make you want to vote some key politicians out of office.”
