Last week on Fox Business News, former Congressional Budget Officer Douglas Holtz-Eakin told host Lou Dobbs that Obama’s amnesty represents “a tremendous step backward for the nation and for the people he’s trying to help.”
Those who will suffer the most, Holtz-Eakin said, are working Americans, the 7 million waiting in line to enter the United States legally and taxpayers who will have to pony up to fund Obama’s amnesty. Watch the interview here.
|American taxpayers may be on the hook for
$2 trillion to fund Obama’s amnesty.
According to the Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector, the aggregate cost will be $2 trillion, or $40 billion annually for the next 50 years, when spread out over the 5 million aliens’ lifetimes. Rector based his calculation by subtracting the total taxes illegal immigrants are projected to pay into the system from the total benefits they’ll receive.
Since the legalized immigrants have, on average, a 10th grade education, they will not hold jobs that generate enough federal withholding tax to offset perks like earned income tax credits. The direct cost to Americans is equivalent to an extra 30 cents per gallon of gas or a $22,000 tax on each college diploma earned. Obama’s executive decree is an assault on taxpayers.
The staggering $2 trillion total to grant legal status to 5 million unlawful immigrants boggles the mind, especially when the nation is already burdened with debt exceeding $18 trillion.
If Obama gets away with his amnesty edict, the deficit will increase, American workers will be at greater risk of job displacement, and unemployed Americans will find their job searches even more difficult.
