SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Today Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) launched TV ads on national cable TV networks asking America’s senators if they will stand up for working people, since President Obama and billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg want to bring in more immigrant workers to take jobs. The ads are scheduled to run across the country for several weeks.
“The American worker is getting pushed to the back of the job line just to satisfy Wall Street bottom lines and the President’s political agenda. It’s time someone stood for American workers,” commented Jo Wideman Executive Director of Californians for Population Stabilization. “At a time when millions of Americans still can’t find jobs, billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg want to bring in more cheap immigrant labor just to increase corporate profits. And President Obama is playing along. So, who is going to stand up for working people? Ask our senators where they stand.”
In recent years, the White House, various Wall Street billionaires, countless lobbyists and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have worked to pass legislation that would double annual immigration, doubling the number of new people each year who need jobs. According to the Sunlight Foundation, the groups have spent $1.5 billion dollars to hire 3,136 lobbyists at a time when millions of Americans can’t find jobs, pay mortgages or put food on the table.
Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg has even founded his own political group and poured millions of dollars into ads pushing for huge increases in immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens. Many high-tech companies contend they can’t find American workers despite companies like Microsoft recently laying off thousands of employees and even though more than a million Americans with engineering degrees are not working at an American high-tech company. Many high-tech companies prefer immigrant labor and guest workers as the companies can pay them less than Americans.
Wideman concluded, “Isn’t it time the billionaires let American workers share a little more in this Wall Street recovery? Shouldn’t American workers get the first shot at jobs and be able to earn a fair wage? Evidently Mark Zuckerberg and President Obama don’t think so. The question is, what do our senators think?”
