Sheriffs in DC: Border Crisis Getting ‘Worse and Worse’

Published on December 12th, 2014

On December 10, the same day that Congress wrangled unsuccessfully with its $1.1 trillion budget bill that has controversial immigration amnesty provisions, an estimated 200 sheriffs from across the U.S. protested on Capitol Hill.

Their message: President Obama’s executive action will make their already tough jobs tougher as it will lure more drug cartels and contribute to an increase in violent alien crime, underreported by the media. Witness, for example, the endless reporting on nationwide marches in support of Michael Brown and Eric Garner compared to the few and widely scattered stories about the sheriffs.

Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, one of the organizers of law enforcement’s anti-amnesty D.C. march.

The sheriffs have powerful personal experiences that reflect the less publicized side of U.S. immigration laws’ nonenforcement. Jackson County (TX) Sheriff A.J. Louderback, the president of the Sheriffs Association of Texas that patrols a major drug and human smuggling highway, said that his deputies have routinely seized drugs, cartel money and human cargo along U.S. Highway 59, the major thoroughfare from the Rio Grande Valley to Laredo that eventually transports illicit cargo into Houston.

Louderback: “I am very concerned about the lack of national media attention to these very violent crimes that often spill over into Texas.” The murders of two California sheriffs’ deputies by a four-time deported Mexican alien are one more tragic example of what can happen with open borders.

One of the event’s organizers, Bristol County (MA) Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, added that in the collective opinion of his colleagues the border crisis “is getting worse and worse” and that violations of immigration law are being forgiven for “a select group of noncitizens.”

Not only are the “noncitizens” forgiven and often released after committing their crimes, they could also be included in Obama’s executive action that will give them work permits and Social Security numbers. According to leaked Department of Homeland Security documents, if aliens apply for T or U nonimmigration visas, they will not be subject to background checks. By filling out an application, which the global pro-immigration network will point them to, aliens’ past felonies will disappear and will be replaced by official, government-issued IDs.

Obama’s amnesty has met stiff resistance from dedicated law enforcement officers and the citizens they protect. Nevertheless, Obama listens only to advocates and ignores the sheriffs who have the nation’s safety at heart
