There were 203K illegal encounters at the southern border in August according to a new report released by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Monday.
This is an increase from the 200K illegal encounters that were recorded in July, and another strong indication that the border crisis isn’t anywhere close to ending.
Of note, this is the sixth straight month with 200K or more illegal border encounters. It appears July’s numbers were updated on the CBP website, and the new number is now over 200K (up from 199K).
Here are some more numbers from the CBP report that illustrate the magnitude of this situation :
“ CBP Nationwide Total Encounters for FY22TD through August stand at 2,493,723, for the Southwest Border alone that number stands at 2,150,244.
- For this fiscal year to date, repatriations and expulsions total 1,300,467, which means we have expelled or repatriated a larger number than are still in proceedings.
- More individuals encountered at the border will be removed or expelled this year than any previous year.”
Some other interesting stats from the report indicate a minor shift in the age demographics of those encountered at the border.
Encounters of family units decreased by 1%, and unaccompanied children decreased 14% from the previous month. However, the number of single adults increased by 4.2%
Another thing to note is that while some drug seizures were down, there was a 193% increase in seizures of cocaine, and a 6% increase in seizures of fentanyl from the previous month.

According to a report from late July published in Fox News, it’s estimated there have been over 500K “gotaways” that have illegally snuck into the USA this past year. We can only assume that number has risen after August’s numbers came in.
As the border crisis worsens, some politicians at the state level are fed up and taking action.
This CBP report comes on the heels of a move by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to fly illegal aliens from his state to Martha’s Vineyard, the popular Massachusetts resort island frequented by the country’s elite.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has used a similar move, and has flown illegal aliens to Washington, D.C.
