The Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act is so terrible that a prominent business publication has trashed it as being a job killer that will be particularly harmful to recent college graduates.
Business Week journalist Elizabeth Dwoskin, who has written extensively and favorably about immigration in her past articles, began her story Immigration Reform May Make Your Job Search Tougherwith this paragraph:
“If you’re a recent college graduate, a doctoral candidate, or a highly-skilled professional who has been in the job market the past few years, you know it’s rough out there. But if the immigration overhaul proposed in the Senate this morning becomes law, it’s likely to get a lot rougher.”
Dwoskin concluded that issuing more non-immigrant work visas may be great for corporations and universities:
“But if you’re headed into the job market in the next couple years, the changes are rather frightening. No matter how you slice it, you’re likely to face more competition.
As someone who has read literally thousands of immigration stories since 1986 when I first became an activist, I can’t recall a more forthright mainstream media story about the dire consequences of pending legislation.
