Arizona, Michigan Results Prove Americans Deeply Concerned about Immigration’s Negative Impact on Job Market

But the big winner is E-Verify which Romney heartily endorsed in the immigrant-heavy Arizona, 30 percent of the total population, and to a lesser extent in besieged Michigan where the unemployment rate stands at 9.3 percent.

E-Verify, the free online program that allows employers to confirm new hires legal work status has grown in popularity over the last three years. According to a NumbersUSA-sponsored poll taken on February 16 by the independent Pulse Opinion Research that used Rasmussen Reports methodology and was conducted among 1,000 likely voters, the results showed near unanimous E-Verify support.

Democrats, Republicans, Independents, blacks, whites, “others” ( mostly Asians), Evangelicals, Catholics, Protestants, the poor, the middle class,  the wealthy, and private or public sector employees all endorse mandatory E-Verify. One annoying constant in the E-Verify debate is the mainstream media’s insistence that the program is time consuming and expensive to implement. Having been E-Verified in 2009, I knew from personal experience that this  is utter nonsense. My whole process took less than three minutes.

With luck, the primary and polling results will open Republican leadership’s eyes so that House Judiciary Committee chairman Lamar Smith’s Legal Workforce Act, which mandates E-Verify, will move to the House floor for a full vote.
