CA Plan Would Use Taxes to Fund Healthcare for Illegal Aliens 60+, Advocates Want Even More

California Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing to allow illegal aliens to participate in a state-run healthcare program for low income, senior citizens.
Newsom’s plan would extend the Medi-Cal state healthcare program to all adults over 60 regardless of immigration status
Of course, for some advocates the plan doesn’t go far enough. They’re pushing for total healthcare coverage for all illegal aliens in the state of California. They fail to acknowledge that the surplus is due to a unique event, the state’s economy restarting as it emerges from the pandemic lockdowns.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
“Our ultimate goal is everyone,” state Sen. Maria Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles) said of pushing for more coverage. “I think we are in the best position than we have ever been to make more significant progress than we ever have. We are going to keep on pushing to include more uninsured.”
The Times reports extending Medi-Cal healthcare coverage to the one million illegal aliens in the state would cost over $2 billion dollars per year.
Medi-Cal already covers illegal aliens in California until they’re 26 years old, and illegal aliens of any age are eligible for coverage in the event of pregnancy or emergency services.
California just recorded a $75 billion dollar surplus now that state income taxes have been filed.
Even with that, Newsom seems reluctant to go forward with full coverage.
The Times reported Newsom saying:
“One-time surpluses can quickly give way to one-time deficits,” Newsom said. “And to make ongoing commitments in the multi billions of dollars crowds out opportunities to do the same in other areas.”
Even California bureaucrats aren’t sure about the exact cost to a program seemingly already buckling under pressure. Medi-Cal already suffers from long wait times for patients.
The Times reported the Legislative Analyst’s Office stated that “both our caseload and cost estimates are subject to significant uncertainty.”
What’s impossible to calculate is the population increase of illegal aliens in the state if they dole out full coverage.
It’s easy to see that one million number multiplying and the subsequent ballooning costs to the Medi-Cal program along with it.
At the end of the day, California taxpayers are footing the bill to cover an ever-expanding population of illegal aliens with healthcare coverage. These policies are magnets for illegal immigration into California.
