DHS Morale in the Pits … for Fifth Year!

Published on October 8th, 2015

If your immediate boss were Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, and your boss’ boss were President Barack Obama, you would probably be discouraged all day, every day. And according to the 2015 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, you’d have a lot of company.
After all, in the Obama/Johnson era, DHS, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Border and Customs Enforcement agents can be fired or sanctioned for doing their jobs. Two of DHS’s five core missions are to “secure and manage our borders” and “enforce and administer our immigration laws,” goals that the Obama administration has not only ignored but informally rewritten to make the border less secure, making a mockery of immigration laws.
According to an Immigration Reform.com analysis done by former Capitol Hill staffer RJ Hauman, the 240,000-employee strong DHS agency received a 47 percent global satisfaction and a 53 percent employee engagement index score.
Translated from government-speak gobbledygook, the global satisfaction index measures employee satisfaction with their jobs and their pay scale and whether they would recommend the agency as a good place to work. The employee engagement index assesses workers’ degree of engagement and their evaluation of leadership. The analysis concludes: “DHS’s scores this year were the worst in the federal government and continue the department’s disappointing downward trend for the fifth consecutive year. As a reference, DHS received global satisfaction and employee engagement scores of 62 percent and 61 percent, respectively, in 2010.”

For specific reasons that pinpoint why DHS employees have such low morale, consider this small sampling from a large pool of examples posted to the CAPS blog about the open borders White House and the DHS’s misguided leadership.

Lucky thing for DHS that the survey wasn’t conducted this week. The Associated Press reported that deportations of criminal immigrants hit the lowest mark since 2009 when Obama took office. Total deportations have dropped 42 percent since 2012. For law enforcement agents who took an oath to protect America, Obama’s blatant disregard is impossible to comprehend.
