Exit Polls Indicate Immigration Top Concern for Voters

Published on November 29th, 2022

Exit polls from the 2022 midterm elections indicate that immigration is still a top concern for American voters.

The results come from over 2,000 midterm voters who responded to a Zogby Analytics poll commissioned by our friends over at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

The poll indicates American voters oppose amnesty and want a secure border.

By a wide margin, 62 percent to 32 percent, voters favor strong action to secure our border and remove illegal aliens over granting amnesty to illegal aliens or increasing the number of people we admit legally.

Those polled also had a clear message for the incoming Congress.

Half of voters nationwide, said “securing the border and stopping illegal immigration” should be the top immigration issue for the 118thCongress to address. An additional 12 percent of voters said that “finding and removing illegal immigrants” is their top priority.

Some other stats from the poll we found interesting were that 83% of respondents said immigration was an important factor in their voting decisions. This should be a shot across the bow for any candidate who wants to brush this issue aside.

Furthermore 64% of respondents said they wanted a border wall, and 55% thought Biden’s policies encouraged illegal immigration. We strongly recommend everyone to read the full article on FAIR’s site, as there’s plenty of other interesting data points.

The data from this exit poll reflects a broader trend among the American public with relation to immigration policy in 2022. We blogged back in August that a poll indicated American support for immigration had hit a two year low. We also wrote about another poll conducted in late May which showed a majority of Americans felt immigration was on the wrong track.

In our post-election analysis, we made the case that Gov. Ron DeSantis and Gov. Greg Abbott, two politicians with strong records on immigration enforcement, both scored resounding victories.

While there were many surprises in the 2022 midterm elections, the fact that immigration is still a top concern for American voters shouldn’t be to anyone paying attention to what’s going on at the border.

In the midst of the worst border crisis in our country’s history, is it any surprise that Americans are so concerned about this issue? We just wish our political leaders shared the same perspective as the American voter, and took action to enforce our immigration laws and stop the border crisis once and for all.
