If you asked House Judiciary Committee chairman Lamar Smith what President Obama’s Christmas wish lists look like, he’d say they’re always full of goodies for illegal aliens.

Last Christmas Congress was locked in a tooth and nail battle to pass the wildly unpopular DREAM Act. Then House majority leader Nancy Pelosi put together a late night coalition of Democrats with just enough reluctant Republicans to squeeze out a narrow 216-198 victory. Fortunately the DREAM Act died in the Senate.

The DREAM Act’s defeat gravely disappointed President Obama who had worked hard in concert with Hispanic activists and Democratic leadership to assure its passage. One of the DREAM Act’s long term consequences would have been amnesty for the students. Amnesty would have led to citizenship and therefore an ability for the former aliens to compete in the market against Americans for increasingly scarce jobs.

We’re now at Christmas 2011 and the federal DREAM Act is yesterday’s news. This year President Obama wants to gift as many as 11 million aliens with work permits that reward lawbreakers and penalize 23 million unemployed or marginally employed Americans.

According to Rep. Smith:

“When illegal immigrants are allowed to stay in the United States and apply for work authorization, the Obama administration grants it 90 percent of the time.” [Obama’s Christmas List Rewards Aliens, by Lamar Smith, Washington Times, December 1, 2011]

In reference to President Obama’s scandalous backdoor amnesty and other alien “stocking stuffers” that include work permits, Rep. Smith said:

“Christmas has also come early for illegal immigrants through the Obama administration's inaction.”

Under the Obama administration, work site enforcement has plummeted 70 percent resulting in fewer illegal workers and criminals arrested as well as fewer indictments and fewer convictions. As long as the jobs magnet remains so does illegal immigration.

President Obama has inflicted the double whammy on the nearly 70 percent of Americans who want immigration laws enforced. The Department of Justice has sued Arizona, Alabama, South Carolina and Utah for their laws aimed at reducing illegal immigration which would in turn protect American workers. On the other hand, the Obama administration has added to the bounty.

Adding to the aliens Christmas good fortune, the Obama administration has consistently refused to support efforts by states and municipalities that blatantly undermine federal immigration laws. President Obama’s gift to criminal aliens has been to stop efforts by Illinois, Massachusetts and New York to participate in Secure Communities. At the same time, the Obama administration refuses to penalize sanctuary cities that openly encourage illegal immigration.

To illegal aliens, President Obama is Santa Claus
