New Rasmussen Poll of Likely Voters: Enforcement Yes, Amnesty No!

Published on May 11th, 2015

Overwhelmingly, Americans want immigration laws enforced.

With 2016 election campaigning well underway, candidates would be wise to heed a recent Rasmussen Reports poll that gauged American opinion about immigration. The findings reveal that, according to prospective voters, America’s “broken immigration system” – the favorite throw-away line immigration advocates use to defend their amnesty and open borders agendas – should be fixed through enforcement and less immigration.

Specifically, 77 percent of likely American voters consider illegal immigration a serious problem, with 51 percent calling it very serious. Most voters, 63 percent, view securing the border more important than giving legal status to aliens living in the United States, the highest level of support for border security in more than three and a half years, with 63 percent favoring using the U.S. military to prevent illegal immigration.

An overwhelming majority, 72 percent, worry that last summer’s Central American surge and the failure to deport the unlawful entrants will encourage more illegal immigration. More than half disapprove of Obama’s executive action that, if allowed to proceed, would give about 5 million aliens work permits, Social Security numbers and protection from deportation.

From the report: “Most voters in nearly every demographic category rate illegal immigration a serious problem and think border control is the most important step to take to combat it.” Read the complete report here.
