Border Patrol Arrests Hundreds of Illegal Aliens Posing as Children

One of the more tragic aspects of the border crisis is how children are dragged across the border against their will.
Even worse is how some illegal aliens have sought to exploit the special provisions our government affords unaccompanied minors found at the border, in order to remain in the country.
As reported by Fox News, border patrol agents in the El Paso sector of the border have identified hundreds of adults posing as minors in the past fiscal year.
“Officials say that agents in El Paso Sector have detected more than 665 adults claiming to be children this fiscal year so far.
It comes amid a broader migrant surge at the border, now into its second year. There have been approximately 200,000 migrant encounters each month for the past five months, with more than two million encounters this fiscal year alone.”
The Fox article mentioned that those lying about their age do face charges of making “false statements to federal agents and conspiracy to defraud the United States” in addition to their immigration violations.
With that said, the potential risks seem to outweigh the rewards for many illegal aliens. As mentioned in another article on this topic from the NY Post, the reason illegal aliens pose as minors is due to the special immigration status we afford children apprehended at the border.
“Illegal immigrants try to pass themselves off as children, knowing that unaccompanied minors who reach the US’s southern border don’t get deported immediately. Instead, they are placed into the care of the federal government until the minor can be reunited with family in the US or eventually sent back to their home country if they don’t have family here.”
Another thing to keep in mind is that these are just the numbers from the El Paso sector. There are eight other sectors of the southwest border where it’s likely this is happening as well.
The problem of unaccompanied children found at the border can’t be understated. As we wrote about in our blog on July’s immigration numbers, last month 13,299 unaccompanied children were found at the border.
This is another example of one of the dangerous side effects of not getting the border crisis under control. This isn’t even getting into the weeds of the national security issues this type of immigration fraud entails.
Sadly, this type of immigration fraud will continue until our political class gets serious and puts a stop to the border crisis.
