Bravo and huge congratulations for the first story I have ever seen that actually addresses the tremendous but buried problem of criminal illegals in our jails and at loose in our society!
While the media loudly exalts all the "rights" of aliens to free education, free medical care, free food stamps, etc, we the public continue to pay in money and in reduced quality of life. And most of our politicians have made the wrong assumption that every alien in the country, legal or illegal, will vote for them . . . the more the merrier, while our national population increases by 3 million every year, 500,000 in California alone. Congress finally started to wake up when they were bombarded by millions of anti-illegal messages during the recent "amnesty" fiasco.
I hope you will follow up with some statistics on (a) how many illegal criminals are in our jails, from county thru state to federal level, (b) the cost of courts and keeping them in jail, (c) the crimes they have committed before they are jailed and after they are released, and (d) how many of them are actually deported and stay deported. Big assignment, eh? But I think you have the facilities through McClatchy to pursue the issue, and it’s obvious that the public has finally gotten aroused enough to be very interested in the subject. Maybe even our benighted politicians will start to understand what’s really going on out there.
