RE: Christopher Coats’ piece on Egypt’s energy shortfalls

The “Economic Update” from the Oxford Business Group, suggests the enormous disparity between the actual total GWh requirements versus turbine capacity across Egypt by referencing the country’s growing population.

Every consumerist disparity between wants and needs; carrying capacity and demographic overshoot, is a formula for total disaster. Aristotle’s quotient was 5,000. Some ecologists suggest 1.1 billion Homo sapiens as the threshold for global crisis. During the time of Christ, Earth’s human population was 300 million. At the time of Marx, 1.5 billion.

Most other primate species but ours (with the exception of baboons) numbers no more than 150, per social unit (read: hamlet).

We are headed towards 10, 11, 12 even 13 billion by century’s end.

The agitations you refer to in the Sinai are nothing like the true Biblical proportions of environmental disaster countries like Egypt – with over 80 million – are heading towards.

No major energy contracts should be given out anywhere in the world without corresponding family planning, and human rights agreements ensuring that women and their children get a fair share of support, not just in voluntary cafeteria-style contraceptives, but in energy tokens proportionate to their Preferred Family Norms (Size), e.g., TFR – Total Fertility Rate(s). Most women, data has conclusively shown, unlike many of their male partners, prefer smaller families. These same women and their smaller families, deserve a higher share of the power and it should be written into every regional contract that engages multinational energy consortia.
