The flood of illegal immigrants entering the United States is actually helping bolster the case of open border advocates, according to immigration enforcement expert Michael Cutler, who appeared on Newsmax TV’s “America’s Forum.”

“One of the arguments we hear from the open borders crowd on both sides of the aisle, well we can’t deport 11 million,” he said, suggesting that the actual number of illegal immigrants in the United States is between 30 million and 40 million. “So every day when more come here, the case gets stronger from their perspective. ‘Oh my God, we have so many what can we do?’ Well, we never said that about drunk drivers or murderers or bank robbers.”

Border security is not limited to states abutting Mexico, Cutler said, saying the United States is a nation of 50 border states.

“Any state that has an international airport has access to the thousands of miles of meandering U.S. coast line or lies along the northern or southern borders, of course border states, that means every state,” he said. “So how in the world do you defend a country when your borders are wide open?”

Border security is synonymous with national security and that providing legal status to people who cannot prove their identity helps enable terrorists who can live in America “in plain sight,” according to Cutler.

He criticized the increasing absence of the term “alien” when labeling people who enter the country illegally. The word, he said, has all but been banned as an act of political correctness and that it’s purposeful legal nomenclature, not an insult.

“The term alien simply means any person not a citizen or national of the United States.” he said. “There’s no insult there but there is clarity. This is a game of obfuscating the truth and providing fog if you will and the fog machine is the words. Second of all … the difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien is comparable to the difference between a house guest or a burglar. We all love company but not when people fly in through our bedroom window in the middle of the night.”

There are valid and important reasons for keep illegal immigrants out of the country, according to Cutler, who cited a section of the United States code charged with keeping out “aliens with dangerous communicable diseases, serious mental illness, people who are violent, sex offenders, aliens who are convicted felons, human rights violators, war criminals, spies, terrorists, aliens who had become a public charge or aliens who by working will displace an American worker or at the very least drive down wages.”
