The past month has been full of exciting developments at CAPS! Here is some of what we've been up to.
CAPS Earth Week Radio Ad
If you were listening to the radio during Earth Week, we hope you heard CAPS' ad on water, traffic, and crowding. The landing page with an adaptation of our corresponding TV spot can be viewed here. It features the voice of a curious child, asking, "If Californians are having fewer children… why isn't there enough water? why are there so many cars? where are all the people coming from?"
With about 40 million people already, California is projected to reach 50 million by 2050… In the spirit of Earth Week, CAPS addressed this truth. A truth that is too inconvenient for the major self-proclaimed environmental groups!
Turning a Blind Eye Gets You a Blindfold!
The CAPS campaign to end sanctuary cities has entered a new phase, now focusing on Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Last week a report revealed that ICE released 19,723 criminal aliens in 2015. So, ICE field office directors around the country are now receiving our blindfolds. CAPS included statements of encouragement, urging those who recognize the lawlessness to speak out.
The ABCs of Carrying Capacity
We also have a brand new Issues piece on Carrying Capacity by CAPS Senior Writing Fellow Leon Kolankiewicz. This is one of the most important issues of our time yet is woefully misunderstood. Pictured below is Death Valley, one of the many habitats Kolankiewicz uses to elegantly illustrate the principle of carrying capacity and communicate the respect that nature demands.
Take Action: California
For those of you anxious to take action, we have a California alert on SB 10! This bill is an attempt to have California petition the federal government to include illegal aliens in the state's health insurance exchange. Do your part to help block this affront to the American citizen.
Take Action: Federal
Tell Congress to pass HR 1147! CAPS has always considered enforcement of immigration law at the workplace as the key to removing incentives for illegal immigration and ensuring that American jobs go to legal American workers. The Legal Workforce Act would establish a much needed, mandatory and permanent employment eligibility verification system.
We will have even more exciting news to report soon, including the winners of the Growing Pains student video contest!
Sincerely,
Jo Wideman CAPS Executive Director
