CAPS TV Ad Asks if Endless Flow of Immigrant Workers to Take Jobs and Suppress Wages was Martin Luther King's Dream

Despite Still High Unemployment Rates For Blacks And Hispanics, Pres. Obama Offers Four Million Illegal Aliens Work Permits, U.S. To Admit One Million Immigrant Workers In 2015

LOS ANGELES (January 13, 2015) – Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) launched TV ads today on national cable news networks and local TV stations in Los Angeles leading up to Monday’s celebration of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.  The ads are launching on the heels of President Obama’s executive action rewarding four million illegal aliens with amnesty and work permits.  The President’s action comes at a time when millions of African Americans and Hispanic Americans continue to struggle with high unemployment, underemployment and wage stagnation.  And as the nation prepares to admit another one million immigrant workers in 2015.

The November 2014 U6 unemployment rate for African Americans was 19.2% and for Hispanic Americans, 13.6%.  And while the overall unemployment rate decreased in November, labor participation rates dropped as did hourly wages.

“The great Dr. Martin Luther King promoted equal treatment for all Americans.  But President Obama is putting the interests of immigrant workers ahead of American workers who want jobs,” commented Joe Guzzardi, National Media Director for CAPS.  “Unfortunately, the President’s policies are disproportionately harming the most vulnerable American workers who more often than not are minority Americans.  Maybe the President and those in Congress pushing for more immigrant workers have lost sight of Dr. King’s dream?”

The TV ad features poignant music and black and white photos of American workers who would like jobs.  The announcer asks how Dr. King “would feel about 19% of African-Americans being unemployed or underemployed?  About giving amnesty and work permits to four million illegal aliens with so many Americans jobless?  About admitting one million more immigrant workers in 2015 when 13% of Hispanic Americans are having trouble finding work?  About Americans of all races not seeing a real wage increase in decades?”  The commercial concludes, “Was that Dr. King’s dream?”
