Demands to “Abolish ICE” Put Politics Above Safety
Californians for Population Stabilization supports the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency
(Ventura, CA) Politicians continue to make abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a key component in their campaigns and platforms. Not waiting for courts to decide if “sanctuary” laws that prevent state and local law enforcement from complying with federal law are legal, politicians are calling for outright elimination of the national immigration law enforcement agency. Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) backs policies designed to control immigration and support public safety.
“We find it appalling that politicians and elected officials are joining in a propaganda campaign to abolish a government agency that is helping to keep our communities safe and secure our borders. These politicians would rather attack the dedicated professionals who keep our streets safe from drug dealers, human traffickers and other felons, rather than enforce existing laws or enact meaningful reforms,” said Ric Oberlink, Executive Director of CAPS.
Many candidates have made the abolition of ICE and ignoring federal immigration laws key pillars in their campaigns. While these tactics garner media coverage and support from well-funded donors, they do nothing to address the issues and concerns that led to these laws.
“When political leaders are encouraging law-abiding citizens to show contempt for federal agents and federal law, what message are they sending to the criminals?” Oberlink asks.
Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to formulate and advance policies designed to stabilize the population of California, the U.S. and the world at levels that will preserve the environment and a good quality of life for all.
