VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN—IT IS TIME TO CONTROL IMMIGRATION; IT IS TIME TO PROVIDE JOBS TO AMERICAN WORKERS

Santa Barbara, CA – November 4, 2010 – While economic issues dominated the election, voters also sent a clear message that they are fed up with an out-of-control immigration policy, according to the nonpartisan group, Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS).
"Dozens of House and Senate seats flipped from supporters of amnesty to opponents of amnesty. None changed in the opposite direction," said Marilyn DeYoung, Chairman of the Board of CAPS.
While politicians decry the massive unemployment, government policies continue to bring in millions of workers through family chain migration, permanent and “temporary” foreign worker programs, and the diversity visa lottery. Lax enforcement of workplace laws means that additional millions of workers are in the country illegally.
"There is a broad consensus that we must have mandatory verification of the eligibility of workers and that we must increase border security. Congress should proceed in a bipartisan manner to enact these meaningful reforms. Conversely, American voters have rejected offering amnesty to those who have broken our immigration laws," stated DeYoung.
The elections also produced a new crop of governors and state officials who are concerned with the deleterious impacts of unrestricted immigration on the workers and economies in their states. CAPS anticipates a continued increase in efforts at the state and local level to close the gap effected by federal failure in immigration enforcement.
"We hope that Congress will take this opportunity to listen to the electorate and reject the open-border and cheap-labor lobbies that have dictated immigration policy. Voters and workers across the nation have spoken, and they want to see less immigration," DeYoung said.
