Ending Title 42 Could Create Catastrophic Border Crisis

With covid restrictions lifting, experts have already predicted a record breaking spring for illegal border crossings at our southern border. Now, President Biden is poised to repeal a Trump-era enforcement policy known as Title 42, which could result in previously unseen levels of migrants attempting to cross our southern border.

As the pandemic swept across America in 2020, President Trump invoked Title 42, which allowed border agents to expel migrants to “prevent the introduction of communicable diseases.” The policy made sense for both our public health and to control the flow of migrants from illegally crossing our southern border.

Despite warnings from fellow Democrats, in the past week the Biden Administration has signaled they will terminate the policy.

The New York Post explained what this could mean for our southern border.

Recent reports have indicated that the lifting of Title 42 could bring a wave of up to 170,000 migrants attempting to enter the US this spring, with hundreds already marching north through Mexico and many camped out at ports of entry along the border.

Last week, with rumors spreading that the policy was to be scrapped, law enforcement officials along the border insisted that the Biden administration had no plan to deal with the aftermath.

According to Fox News, Biden’s own border chief has warned of the catastrophe if Title 42 is repealed.

Even Chris Magnus, Biden’s own Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, is warning of the dire consequences that will come from eliminating Title 42 saying, “As a result of the CDC’s termination of its Title 42 public health order, we will likely face an increase in encounters above the current high levels.”

For those paying attention Biden’s latest immigration policy disaster should come as no surprise. Joe Guzzardi, a former CAPS writer and immigration expert, put it best: “Americans dismayed by Biden’s contempt for immigration laws, and the well-being that many of those laws provide, should brace for more lawlessness and chaos ahead.
