September Border Numbers Break New Record
Published on October 24th, 2022
There was a record breaking 227K+ illegal encounters at the southern border in September, according to a new report released by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) late last week.
This is the highest ever number of encounters at the southern border in a single month in history. A CBP press release on the September border encounters mentioned this was a 12% increase from August, which recorded 203K total encounters.
This is the seventh straight month with over 200K illegal encounters at the border, and it’s also 35K plus more encounters than were recorded in September of last year (192K encounters in FY 2021).
According to stats posted by CBP, in FY 2022 there’s been over 2.2 million illegal encounters by border patrol, and over 2.7 million total illegal encounters.
A recent report from CIS we also blogged about, estimated that in FY 2022 there have been over 1.3 million illegal aliens released into the USA, and over half a million got-aways. After the September numbers, these estimates are certain to have increased.
Bill Melugin, a terrific immigration reporter for Fox News who has extensively chronicled this crisis from the border itself, wrote a full report on the September border numbers.
His report revealed a disturbing piece of information about terrorism along the border.
“CBP’s numbers also show that there were 20 known or suspected terrorists arrested at the southern border in September, bringing the total terror watchlist arrests at the border for the fiscal year 2022 to 98. The number of terror watchlist arrests at the border for the last five years combined was 26.”
Another thing of note is the unusual timing of the report, which came out later in the month than it normally does.
There were several allegations last week that the Biden administration was delaying the release of these numbers. Several former government officials involved in border enforcement even threatened to release the numbers themselves if the Biden administration did not immediately do so themselves.
There were other allegations, including from our friends at the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), that this was a news dump after the numbers were released late in the evening last Friday.
Regardless of the timing of the report, these numbers are a clear sign that the border crisis is completely out of control with no end in sight.
That’s one reason for the importance of our new ad campaign, which highlights how every state is a border state until we stop the sanctuary crisis. The time to act is right now, because this is quickly turning into a much bigger crisis than anyone could have ever predicted.
