Alarm Bells Raised Over New ID Card for Illegal Aliens

Published on August 5th, 2022

A newly planned identification card set to be issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has set off alarm bells for those concerned about illegal immigration.

The “ICE Secure Docket Card” is part of an effort to condense paperwork and keep track of illegal aliens in the USA.

Our friends over at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) are rightly skeptical.

A writeup from Executive Director Bob Dane has the breakdown:

Serving as an all-purpose pass, the SDC will enable illegally present migrants to board airplanes, access certain state benefit programs, and generally make themselves at home.

An official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) touted the card’s “cutting-edge security features [for] the mutual benefit of the government and noncitizens.” Note there is no mention of benefits to U.S. citizens. Because there are none.

Dane’s writeup also highlighted how this new card undermines the E-Verify system, and creates the potential for voter fraud.

According to a report in Fox News, 16 Republicans in Congress share FAIR’s concern.

Sixteen congressman sent a letter to ICE highlighting the potential pitfalls of this program.

” ‘We are concerned that this pilot program is yet another Biden Administration move encouraging illegal immigration by rewarding illegal immigrants for breaking our laws,’ the 16 Republicans, led by Reps. James Comer and Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., say in a letter to acting ICE Director Tae Johnson. ”

The letter further added:

“Finally, the issuance of ID cards raises the possibility that illegal aliens will use these identification cards to improperly access benefits such as housing, healthcare, and transportation,” they write.

In the midst of a record breaking border crisis, our government and immigration officials should be doing everything in their power to discourage illegal immigration.

Policies like this only incentivize more people to illegally enter the country and utilize even more state resources.

The Secure Docket Card is going to first be tried out as a pilot program. We’ll be watching closely to see if this is made into a national policy.
