Governors Create “Border Strike Force” to Curb Illegal Immigration

Published on April 27th, 2022

Twenty six governors have banded together to create a “border strike force” to curb illegal immigration.

The move is a direct response to the Biden administration’s lack of concern over the ever growing crisis at our border and historic increases in illegal immigration.

In a press release last Tuesday, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey broke down the need for such a plan:

[T]he American Governors’ Border Strike Force will serve as a force multiplier in the fight against criminal activity directly tied to our border. My thanks to my fellow governors who saw the problem and chose to be part of the solution.

According to the press release, the plan is modeled on the Arizona Border Strike Force which is a statewide effort to curb illegal immigration.

The press release also broke down the key areas they will focus on:

The unprecedented collaboration among 26 states will fill the void created by federal inaction and work to secure the southern border by sharing intelligence, strengthening cybersecurity and improving efforts to protect children and families.”

In an interview with Fox News, Governor Ducey highlighted how the federal government’s inaction on this crisis is affecting his state and others across the country.

As governors, we’re doing everything we can,” Ducey said. “This is the federal government’s responsibility. Our people in southern Arizona are absolutely overwhelmed, as are the federal government’s Customs and Border Protection, law enforcement agents, along with the border patrol. We need support from the federal government, but they’re averting their gaze. They’ve got an open borders policy and all of our states are paying for this, specifically our border states.

As we’ve exhaustively pointed out, things are trending in the wrong direction in terms of a record-breaking surge in illegal border crossings.

While at the national level things are currently dire in terms of immigration enforcement, at the state level there’s been positive signs.

What’s even better is when states led by those who understand this is a major crisis band together to take action.
