Are immigrants taking the jobs of American born citizens? A TV ad calls for slowing legal immigration until California is working again. But is it going too far?
"Californians for Population Stabilization" is putting out the ad.
It’s partly blaming legal immigration for the high unemployment rates in California.
It’s calling for lower levels of legal immigration until Californians are working again.
But a local immigration attorney says legal immigration is not to blame.
"I don’t believe it is these temporary workers coming into the US who created this situation were in today." says Dini Nair.
Unemployment rates top 18% in California.
The state has been forced to borrow $40 million a day from the Federal Government to pay unemployment benefits.
Nair says this organization will not get what they want without a long drawn out fight.
This ad has not aired in Fresno.
But it will air in other California cities for the next few months.
